Student Bursary Sponsorship at Greenmount Campus

October 23, 2020

The 2020-21 Higher Education Bursary Programme was recently launched at Greenmount Campus. Twenty two thousand pounds was on offer to students from 22 companies which reinforces the tremendous and sustained support industry has for the higher education programmes available in agriculture and horticulture.

Speaking about the bursary competition, Mr Martin McKendry, CAFRE Director stated, “This is a unique year for everyone and we recognise the challenges, not only faced by ourselves and our students, but for those within the agri-food industry. CAFRE is deeply indebted to all bursary sponsors for their continued support.  I applaud this generosity from industry and their willingness to support young people.”

The twenty two bursaries, worth at least £1,000 each, are on offer to full-time students who have commenced the BSc honours degree in Agricultural Technology, the Foundation Degree in Agriculture and Technology and the Foundation Degree in Horticulture courses in September 2020. Students apply on a competitive basis by submitting a report on a title provided by the awarding organisation. Many of the sponsors also interview students as part of the selection process some of which offer work placement opportunities too.

This year’s bursaries have been generously provided by ABP Food Group, AI Services Ltd, Bank of Ireland, Bulrush Horticulture Ltd, Calor NI Ltd, Dale Farm, Danske Bank, Dunbia, Fane Valley, Genus ABS, Gibson Trust, Idverde, Irish Farmers’ Journal, John Thompson and Sons, Lakeland Dairies, MH Farms Ltd, Moy Park Ltd, National Beef Association, Tyrone Farming Society, Ulster Farmers’ Union, Ulster Grassland Society and Yara.
