Thursday 22nd October, 8.00pm – 9.00pm

The BETTER Farm Beef Challenge NI is a joint venture between the Irish Farmers Journal, ABP Food Group and CAFRE. The programme aims to improve the profitability and sustainability of suckler farms across Northern Ireland through the adoption of new technologies and knowledge transfer.

BETTER Farm Beef Challenge NI will hold a virtual farm walk on Thursday 22 October at 8pm. Hosting the event will be Jonathan Blair, who runs a 90 cow spring-calving suckler herd outside Ballykelly, County Derry/Londonderry.

The event will feature a series of pre-recorded videos focusing on cattle type and breeding management, along with weaning management this autumn. With cattle born on farm taken through to slaughter, discussions will also focus on winter finishing fodder budgets, nutrition and the role of high-quality silage. in intensive bull-beef systems.

Jonathan will also be joined by the farm’s vet Craig Campbell to discuss this year’s scanning results and herd health planning.
