CAFRE is Still Recruiting

Hi my name is Deirdre Cooper and I manage the Schools Recruitment Team for CAFRE.

Just wanted to let everyone know that although CAFRE is closed we are still welcoming new applications for all our courses. At this time of the year my team of Liz Simpson, Toni Donnelly and Alan Johnston would normally be visiting schools and talking to Year 10 students about subject choices for GCSE and attending careers conventions and events. We would also be getting ready for Balmoral Show and Garden Show Ireland but sadly it’s not to be. You may have already met the team at various events in the past.

Things have changed so dramatically for all of us over the last five weeks – school and college closures, no GCSE or GCE exams, lock down and for me a new one working from home! It sounds good but it has taken a while to adjust to not being able to drop into someone’s office or meet them at coffee time for a chat. On a positive note my team are now using communication methods that we have talked about using for years. Team meetings are on line using Zoom, Teams etc…and we are connecting with careers teachers, potential students and applicants through social media, emails and hopefully soon online presentation /webinars and virtual tours.

While the Schools Recruitment Team are not out and about we are very much working to connect with potential students. Applications are still open. Those interested in Certificate and Diploma courses after GCSE’s or part-time degree programmes can apply on-line on the CAFRE website. Applications for degree courses should be made through UCAS as a late application up until the end of June and then through clearing.
