Good luck to CAFRE floristry students at RHS Chelsea

Three CAFRE floristry students are heading to London to compete in this year’s RHS Chelsea Florist & Young Florist of the Year Competition. Ann Kirkwood from Derry/Londonderry, a first time finalist in the RHS Chelsea Florist competition, Megan Ingram from Belfast who was placed first in the local heat held in Greenmount Campus for the young Chelsea florist and Clare McAuley from Comber, returning for a second year to the same competition.

Chelsea Floristy Finalists 2018The theme for this year’s competition is ‘Spring Wedding’ and competitors must create a floral wedding throne with at least two thirds of the design being made from fresh flowers and/or plant material.

The students also featured on BBC Radio Ulster’s Gardeners’ Corner programme, when David Maxwell visited Greenmount Campus to speak to the students and their floristry lecturer Anne Marie Grant about their experience of reaching the finals of the RHS Chelsea Florist & Young Florist of the Year Competition.
