Loughry Food Students visit London’s International Food Exhibition
Final year food degree students from CAFRE’s Loughry Campus recently took part in a study tour to London from 21st – 23rd March.
The main objective was to learn about developments in the agri-food industry and a key focus of the tour was the International Food Exhibition held at ExCel, London. The exhibition, which is the biggest food show in the UK, celebrated the latest new product developments, latest food trends and in-depth insight across the global food and drink landscape. Students witnessed huge growth in many product trends including health foods, snacks and food to go categories, as well as an increasing demand for convenient, alternative protein snacks.
Exhibiting companies from sixty countries participate in this leading international food event. The students had the opportunity to see and taste some of the vast range of new, innovative and exotic food and drink products on display and hear at first hand from global businesses about new and emerging food trends across the globe.
They also took the opportunity to see developments in retail marketing at Harrods, Whole Foods Market and Hamley’s, with its colourful displays and enthusiastic sales people. Although it was a busy few days, the students also managed to visit the main tourist attractions in London with a trip to Westminster and Tower Bridge.
