Loughry students raise funds for Ethiopia
06 May 2009

Loughry students from the College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise (CAFRE), organised a Campus Disco, the proceeds of which were donated to the charity ‘MUMS for MUMS’. The charity, which is based in the Tigray region of northern Ethiopia, is dedicated to working with women and in particular young single mothers, who are some of the most forgotten people in Ethiopian society. Kate Courtenay, Regional President of Soroptimist International of Northern Ireland, accepted the cheque on behalf of the organisation and thanked the students for their thoughtful and generous response to her regional charity.

The Students’ Representative Council President Hilary Andrews has been encouraging the student body to support a range of charities this year including Children in Need, Breast Cancer Awareness and Newry Hospice. To date they have raised over £3500, evidence of organisational skills and a caring attitude, attributes that will be invaluable for future employers.
