Greenmount’s Garden Gallery

Alan McIlveen, Horticultural Manager, Greenmount Campus, College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise (CAFRE)

Greenmount Campus near  Antrim will open the campus gates for the fourth time this summer on the weekend of Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 August. On this occasion the campus will welcome visitors to the “Greenmount Garden Gallery”.

CAFRE is well known for running practical courses in agriculture, food, rural and countryside management, veterinary nursing and equine but the college also runs some courses that have a strong artistic dimension to them such as Landscape Horticulture and Floristry

During this weekend the walled garden will highlight the strong and traditional link between art and horticulture. It will act  as an outdoor gallery – a place where artists can display their work within a magnificent natural context. The art forms will range  from temporary transient forms to more permanent features.

Sculptures small and large will be displayed within beds and borders. Members of the Greenmount Association Floristry Club will be actively creating temporary / transient art forms using natural materials over the two days. Antrim Art and Camera Club will have a static display of their work on show during the weekend.  Members will also be sketching and snapping photographs throughout the event.

So why not take time out and come along? Admission to the gardens is free. Visitors will also be welcome to explore and joy the extensive campus grounds and nature trail.

The opening times are 10:30-5pm on Saturday and 1-5pm on Sunday. Picnicking facilities are available.
