Jane Elliott, College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise (CAFRE), Enniskillen CampusEnrolment at CAFRE for modules being offered in Spring 2011 on the Honours Certificate and Diploma in Science (Equine Science) through Distance Learning takes place up until Thursday 6 January 2011. The Equine Distance Learning programme is designed to give learners over the age of 16 years the opportunity to study a range of subjects of relevance to the equine industry on a part time basis. Students enrolling on the programme can select from a range of modules at a particular level of study. Depending on other commitments such as work, family, horses and other interests, learners have the option to study one module a semester or several modules a semester. Modules which can be undertaken at level 1, stage 1 of the programme include Introduction to Horsemanship, Equine Anatomy and Physiology, Biology 1, Microeconomics and Introduction to Information Technology. Once learners have enrolled on modules they are issued with module packs which they study at home. These packs contain a number of questions which students can use to test their knowledge and understanding of the material in the packs. Four tutorial sessions take place for most of the modules each semester. These take place at a range of locations in Northern Ireland including CAFRE campuses at Greenmount and Enniskillen. In addition students are required to attend some compulsory laboratory days and/or practical assessment days depending on the modules being studied. Attendance at examinations is also compulsory.
