Greenmount Hockey Star is New Zealand bound
20 August 2009 Andrew Bassett, a Greenmount HND in Agriculture Year II student was recently given the honour of captaining the Ulster Juniors Hockey Team for the Interprovincial Tournament held at Hillsborough during Easter. Andrew was elected as captain on the back of his performances in a successful season with Campbellians Hockey Club, in which they won the Irish Challenge Cup and were runners up in the Sussex Regiment Cup. Andrew lives on a mixed beef / sheep and cereals farm near Killyleagh Co. Down. Andrew is currently on his work placement year, a key part of the HND in Agriculture course in which students complete industry and farm work placements. He is working on a 35,000 acre mixed beef and arable farm in New South Wales, Australia as part of his placement. Andrew values the importance of using this once in a lifetime opportunity to gain experience and travel the world at the same time. Andrew made the most of the sports facilities at Greenmount during his first year of study, especially the gym, which is a good way to take the mind of studies and develop friendships at the Campus. Andrew also plays cricket in the summer time and is hoping his good hockey season will carry over into his first cricket season with Dundrum Cricket Club.
