The Detail in the Retail
07 September 2010

Loughry student Melissa Coote has had a busy summer. A key part of her National Diploma in Food, Nutrition & Health is a 12 week work placement.

“As a food student I’m aware of the many opportunities right across the food supply chain. Eventually I’d like to be involved in educating consumers to eat more healthily so I’ve chosen to try and gain some experience in food retailing. This busy Delicatessen and Butchery is perfect.”

“The great thing about working with food is that my job is quite varied. I’m responsible for making the fresh, chilled added value meat and bakery products as well as marketing the fresh vegetable produce.”

Melissa will return to Loughry in the coming weeks to finish her course. “I’m really looking forward to getting back to Loughry – hopefully I’ll be able to use some of my new knowledge in the practically based units that I’ll study this year.”

If you’ve recently completed your GCSE’s and are at a “career crossroads”, Loughry still has a few places left on its National Diplomas in Food Technology and Food Nutrition & Health.
