Careers on the agenda at Greenmount
02 November 2009 Kenneth Johnston, Senior Lecturer, CAFRE, Greenmount Campus.Liz Bowles of the Careers Service Northern Ireland is a regular visitor to the Greenmount Campus of the College of Agriculture Food and Rural Enterprise. She plays a key role in the delivery of the CAFRE Careers Education and Guidance [CEG] programme delivered to FE students. During a recent visit Liz made a presentation to National Diploma in Agriculture students on both the UCAS and CAO [for students applying to Universities in the Republic of Ireland] application processes. The National Diploma in Agriculture (NDA) course at CAFRE offers a good balance of practical training backed up by sound technical knowledge and understanding and is a great course for students wishing to move on to Higher Education . A high percentage of National Diploma of Agriculture students progress to a range of HE courses each year including Degrees and Higher National Diplomas. In fact three of last year students Alan Archibold from Portballintrae, Chris Breadon from Portstewart and Steven McAllister from Bushmills gained the highest possible grades - three ‘distinctions’ - in their National Diploma. Alan and Steven are now studying for the BSC in Agriculture Technology and Chris the Higher National Diploma in Agriculture at Greenmount. This year’s final year students are now considering their futures and a large number hope to move on to HNDs and Degree programmes. For more information on full-time or part-time courses at the College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise call Freephone 0800 028 4291 or browse elsewhere on the website.
