Students raise funds for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution
07 May 2010

Loughry and Greenmount students, from the College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise (CAFRE), recently organised a campus charity fun day in aid of the RNLI, which is an independent charity, funded by voluntary donations and could not save lives at sea without the public’s support.

During an action packed day the students started with a charity auction, followed by a raft race and ended the day with a highly successful barbeque and disco. The event was supported by donations of food and prizes from the following companies, who the students would like to thank for their generosity; Avondale Foods, British Bakeries, Coca Cola, Diageo, Dunbia, Delta Packaging, Evron Foods, Golden Cow, Irwins Bakery, Norfolk Line, Smurfit Packaging and Quinn Glass.

Loughry’s Students’ Representative Council has been encouraging the student body to support a range of charities this year and the event raised over £800 which is evidence of the students’ organisational skills and a caring attitude, attributes that will be invaluable for future employers. The students plan to present the money raised at the Annual Charity Raft Race to be held in Portrush in May.
