‘Jammy’ Loughry Students on yet another food visit!
12 March 2010

Practical application to the real world of work is all too important for success today, and at Loughry there’s no better way to demonstrate this than through trips to food businesses. Recently, as part of their studies, National Diploma Food Technology students enjoyed a factory visit to Howell House Bakery, Lisburn. Here, past Loughry student Finbar Haughey gave students an inspiring talk and a tour of the bakery, where students were able to see first hand how the famous Howells Handmade ‘Jammy Joeys’ are made.

Charlotte O’Neill, a first year Food Technology student said about the visit “Visits are a great way to help us gain greater insight into the commercial world of food processing and see theory being put into practice. I can now appreciate the skill and effort required to produce these types of product. I thoroughly enjoyed it – and we got the chance to taste their products too!”

Loughry Campus’s practically based courses and world class facilities ensure their students are equipped to make almost any food and drink product. Not only that – a proven track record of 100 percent progression directly into employment or higher education makes them a winner!

If you’re interested in a practical based course with excellent career prospects come along to our next open day on Tuesday 27 April 2010 from 3.00 - 8.00 pm.
