Greenmount students see it all at Scotgrass
18 June 2010

Twenty three National Certificate in Land-based Technology students from CAFRE, Greenmount Campus enjoyed a recent Study trip to the Scotgrass event at Dumfries.

The event was held on a 120 acre site at the Acrehead Unit of the Scottish Agricultural College’s Crichton Royal campus.

It was an excellent occasion to view the latest technology developments in grass harvesting and handling machinery. In addition, the event also included demonstrations of equipment designed to apply and manage slurry and manure to maximise the nutrient value. The static display area included a wide range of related agricultural machinery.

Students benefitted greatly from the information, advice and career guidance which was freely available from the various manufacturers’ technical staff.

Students also had the opportunity to see the recently refurbished dairy unit at Acrehead which included a new parlour waste water handling and heating system. The silo at the farmyard proved to be a star attraction, exhibiting the latest developments in loaders and clamp machinery.
