Developing a career in horticulture - from caretaker to technical supervisor
26 July 2010 Thomas Simpson started working for the Parks Service of Ards Borough Council as a caretaker in 1982 and has moved through a series of jobs to his current post in the management team. Key to his career path has been his study at Greenmount Campus which is part of CAFRE. Starting his first course in 1996, Tom completed his NVQ Level 2 in Horticulture, and is currently studying the new Level 3 work based Diploma in Horticulture (parks, gardens and green spaces). Life-long learning is available to all, and of help to everyone – Thomas is only one such case – why not be the next?
