Aughnacloy College pupils get a taste for student life at Loughry
02 July 2009 For the pupils from Aughnacloy College their visit to Loughry Campus, CAFRE (College of Agriculture, Food & Rural Enterprise) proved to be a real hands-on learning experience. The Year 11 pupils discovered the processes involved in the manufacture of some of their favourite foods using Loughry’s superb food processing facilities. The visit was organised by former Loughry student Fiona Sharkey, who completed her BSc (Hons) Degree in Food Supply Management at Loughry Campus in June 2008, before going onto to study for a PGCE in Home Economics at the University of Ulster. During her practical teaching placement with Aughnacloy College, Fiona took the opportunity to organise a study trip to Loughry for her Home Economics pupils to experience the processes involved in the manufacture of foods. The pupils also got a flavour of student life as they visited the student facilities and checked out the courses in Food, Nutrition and Health, Food Technology and Food Management and Marketing on offer at the campus, which can led to excellent career opportunities in the food industry, with starting salaries of up to £22,000. If you are interested in finding out more about the wide range of courses on offer at Loughry Campus and would like a career in a fast moving industry come along to Loughry’s Open Evening on Thursday 27 August from 3.00 pm to 8.00 pm for details.
