Gain qualifications in Racehorse Care whilst working in a yard
25 January 2012 New training programme for the equine industryCAFRE, Enniskillen Campus aims to enrol the first students on a new programme, a level 2 Diploma in Work based Racehorse Care, in February 2012. The aim of this programme is to provide students, who are working within the family equine business or in an approved work placement within the equine industry, with practical job related skills and with a broad knowledge of matters relating to Racehorse care. The course is practically based and aims to develop students’ equine skills. The Racehorse Care programme includes units such as cleaning stables, providing feed and water to horses, monitoring horse health, grooming, fitting tack and horse clothing, plaiting and trimming, lungeing and transporting horses. On-the-job training will be delivered by College staff on a day-release or block-release basis. Entrance requirementsIn order to get a place on the programme applicants should be at least 16 years of age and should normally have two grade Cs or three grade Ds at GCSE or equivalent. Some experience of working with horses is essential. Basic skills in riding racehorses are required for those wishing to undertake riding pathways.
