Jeremy wins Ulster Farmers’ Union Bursary at Greenmount
08 January 2010 Jeremy Turkington, from Sandholes near Cookstown, was recently awarded a £1,000 bursary from the Ulster Farmers’ Union (UFU) at the Greenmount Campus of the College of Agriculture Food and Rural Enterprise (CAFRE). Jeremy, a former pupil of the Royal School Dungannon, is currently studying for a Foundation Degree in Rural and Countryside Management. Jeremy was delighted to receive the support from the Ulster Farmers’ Union. He said “This bursary is a great boost at the start of my higher education and it is very encouraging that industry is willing to invest in young people embarking on a career in the land-based sector. This award will allow me to fully participate in all the opportunities on offer at Greenmount.” At the presentation ceremony, UFU Deputy President Mr John Thompson congratulated Jeremy on his thought-provoking report entitled “Can profitable farming and the environment co-exist?” Jeremy is particularly interested in rural development and enjoys most country sports. He is also a very talented rugby player currently playing for Dungannon Firsts and has represented Ulster at several age groups as well as Irish schools’ and London Irish under 21’s.
