The A Level Alternative
13 August 2010

It’s the time of year when many students are anxiously awaiting their GCSE results. The pressure! “Will I get the grades to return to sixth form for A-level? My university and career choice depends on it!” Or does it?

Many students are taking the A-level alternative – by studying a BTEC National Diploma. It’s an option worth considering, especially if you’re interested in a fantastic career with endless opportunities.

Loughry Campus offers BTEC National Diplomas in Food Technology and in Food Nutrition & Health. Here you can study subjects with a practical and vocational focus, assessed continuously with no end exams. After two years study you’ll be ready for employment or you can apply to colleges and universities in the same way A-level students do.

Kathy Patterson took this route with no regrets. “I didn’t want to return to school after my GCSE’s – I fancied something more like college. The National Diploma enabled me to stay on and complete my degree at Loughry. I’ve landed my first job straight after graduation so I’m very pleased!”

Make sure you know what your options are by coming along to Loughry’s Open Evening on 26 August between 3pm and 8pm.
