Jamie flies the flag at 2010 Ryder Cup
17 August 2010 Congratulations to Jamie McCune, Greenkeeper at Clandeboye Golf Club, who has been selected to work as part of the elite greenkeeping team at the Ryder Cup in October at Celtic Manor Resort, Wales. Jamie, who has just completed his first year of the Level 3 Advanced National Certificate (ANC) in Sports and Amenity Turf Management at CAFRE’s Greenmount campus, is looking forward to developing his skills on the international stage. Jamie is no ‘rookie’ - he has worked voluntarily on the British Open at Turnberry in 2009, as well as the 2007 Walker Cup at Royal County Down Golf Club. Giving up his free time to participate at these high level events is a measure of Jamie’s commitment and dedication to developing his abilities as a professional greenkeeper. As Jamie says “my goal is to be a Head Greenkeeper, so the knowledge and experience I’ve built up from the course at Greenmount together with all my practical experience will help me achieve this. And working at the Ryder Cup can’t do me any harm! ”. Thinking of college, he added “I’m also looking forward to getting back to the ANC class at Greenmount – we always have some interesting discussions, and arguments!, so I’m sure the others will be keen to hear about what I’ve learned at this year’s Ryder Cup.” For further information on CAFRE greenkeeping courses at Level 2, 3 and 4 please contact Greenmount Campus email: enquiries@cafre.ac.uk; Telephone: 028 94426666; Textphone: 028 9052 4420; Freephone: 0800 0284291.
