Keeping the ball rolling at the Greenkeeping and Golf Academy

Aidan Donnelly tests the green speeds on the practice putting green at the GUI Greenkeeping and Golf Academy at Greenmount Campus (CAFRE) Located in Antrim. The nine hole course and training facility was opened with the help of Rory McIlroy in 2010 and provides a centre of excellence for both greenkeeper and golf training. Aidan, from Kilkeel, is completing the 2011 Greenkeeping cadetship programme, sponsored by the GUI (Ulster Branch). As part of this programme he is completing his level 2 Work-Based Diploma in sports turf maintenance at the college. The 2012 cadetship programme generally runs from August until July. Two successful applicants are awarded substantial bursaries from the GUI (Ulster Branch) to help them with their living costs while they are studying and gaining work experience on the golf training area at Greenmount campus in Antrim.
