Loughry graduates broaden their horizons
22 April 2010 Hilary Andrews, from Castlerock and Julie Bayne, from Cookstown graduated with Honours Degrees in Food Supply Management from Loughry Campus, College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise, in June 2009. Instead of heading straight to the world of work, Hilary and Julie decided to take a gap year after graduating to broaden their horizons and see the world. Most of this time has been spent in Australia and New Zealand. To help finance the trip Hilary and Julie decided to try their hand at dairy farming. Obviously this choice was influenced by happy memories of their “Primary Production in the Agri-Food Industry” module, studied at Loughry. Our young dairymaids with degrees adapted well to the ‘Aussie way’ of life with Hilary and Julie starting work at 4.30am each morning to milk 500 cows. Julie and Hilary have just returned from their travels via the USA and we plan to invite them back to Loughry to share their experiences and adventures. We hope our daring adventurers enjoyed their travels and we wish them every success in their future careers.
