£7500 Greenkeeping Cadetships available at CAFRE
21 April 2010 The 2010/11 Greenkeeping Cadetships, worth £7500 each, are now open for applications until 7 May 2010. The College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise (CAFRE) delivers a suite of sports turf education programmes at Greenmount Campus. The Greenkeeping Cadetship programme is run in partnership with the Golfing Union of Ireland (GUI). The cadetships are aimed at young people aged 17 -25 who have a keen interest in developing a career in greenkeeping. The GUI is supporting two greenkeeping students per year, with a generous financial bursary of £7,500 each. The 2010/11 Greenkeeping Cadetship programme will run from 1 September 2010 to 31 August 2011. Successful candidates must have relevant practical experience and a minimum of four GCSEs at Grade C or higher including Mathematics and English. They will enrol on the Level 2 Greenkeeping programme and will complete one academic year at Greenmount Campus. During this time they will attend classes and undertake practical instruction on the campus grounds and sports turf areas. One of this years cadets Adrian McCullough, Kilkeel said “I have really enjoyed all aspects of the course and it has made me really determined to succeed in my quest to become a successful greenkeeper. Working as part of the greenkeeping team has been great. Also the generous GUI bursary has helped support my studies, and ensured a few luxuries compared to the normal student life!” The closing date for receipt of completed application forms is 7 May 2010, with interviews in last week of May. For more information and an application form contact CAFRE on 0800 0284291.
