- Greening your Supply Chain - making it happen
Calling all businesses in the agri-food sector - are you interested in “greening” your business and making your competitors green with envy? A half day conference on Wednesday 5th May at Loughry Campus, Cookstown (College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise) could be just the ticket. The conference has been organised by students on the full-time MSc communication course with the aim of promoting awareness of environmentally sustainable practices, techniques to increase efficiencies and how to reduce costs within the agri-food sector. - Florists learn from success
s part of their Business Management unit Greenmount’s floristry students were delighted to welcome Claire Tosh of All Seasons Floral Design, Dunmurry, to discuss her ideas on creating a successful floristry business. Claire’s shop was placed second in the Flower Council of Holland’s Irish Flower Shop of the Year 2009, a competition that scrutinized every aspect of the business. ‘I’m very aware of the importance of staff training in developing a professional approach in retail floristry and am happy to pass on some of what I’ve learned from my years in the trade.’ said Claire
- Loughry graduates broaden their horizons
Hilary Andrews, from Castlerock and Julie Bayne, from Cookstown graduated with Honours Degrees in Food Supply Management from Loughry Campus in June 2009. Instead of heading straight to the world of work, Hilary and Julie decided to take a gap year after graduating to broaden their horizons and see the world
- £7500 Greenkeeping Cadetships available at CAFRE
The 2010/11 Greenkeeping Cadetships, worth £7500 each, are now open for applications until 7th May 2010. The College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise (CAFRE) delivers a suite of sports turf education programmes at Greenmount Campus. The Greenkeeping Cadetship programme is run in partnership with the Golfing Union of Ireland (GUI).
- Greenmount students pleased to see cows at grass
Greenmount students have been very pleased to see the dairy cows turned out to fresh spring grass. National Certificate in Agriculture [NCA] students Richard Thom from Tobermore and Adam Vance from Beragh are coming towards the end of their 1 year course at Greenmount.

Greenmount National Diploma in Agriculture (NDA) students and staff recently visited the Focus farm of Mr Paul O’Hagan of Brackagh farm in the townland of Brackaghslievegallion near Moneymore.

- St Pius X College - Winners of the 2010 McGovern Seven's Tournament
The annual McGovern Sevens competition organised by Loughry Campus, CAFRE and played at the Mid Ulster Sports Arena in Cookstown, attracted teams from across the province.
