Supplying Job Success for Loughry Student
04 September 2008

By Adele Stewart, BSc Food Supply Management, Loughry Campus

Hi, my name is Adele Stewart and some of you may recall my previous article in CAFRE Corner. I started to tell you about my Loughry experience and surprise surprise, I’ve now joined the world of work with a leading light in the food industry.

I arrived at Loughry in September 2004 and last June I walked across the stage at the Awards Day Ceremony and collected my degree  – a second class, first division (OK, a 2.1) BSc (Hons) Food Supply Management with Sandwich Industrial Placement. I was delighted and very appreciative of all the help and support I got from family, friends and not least Loughry staff.

During my final year I applied for a range of jobs and there were plenty to choose from. The Supply Management degree qualified me to apply for several jobs and many in my class had multiple job offers long before we graduated.

After some probing interviews I was given a conditional offer of employment on the Tesco Graduate Trainee Management Scheme which was my first preference. I needed the 2.1 Honours mind you and the fact that I knew this before my finals certainly helped me to focus on my studies. I really enjoyed the Loughry experience, have made friends for life and most importantly have obtained employment which offers excellent career prospects – what more can I say. I would thoroughly recommend Loughry courses and in particular the supply management degree. Yes, a bit of study- what is they say “No pain, no gain” but great craic as well.
