Loughry students celebrate the 'International Year of the Spud'
27 March 2008 Being able to relate our practically based courses to the real world of work is important to Loughry students and there’s no better way to demonstrate this than through trips to food businesses. We are first year National Certificate/Diploma Food Technology and Food, Nutrition & Health students, studying the fundamentals of food manufacture. Recently we enjoyed a visit to Wilsons Country Ltd, Portadown. Here we gained an insight into the commercial world of fruit and vegetable processing, through factory tours facilitated by past Loughry students, Mrs Roberta Warnock (Technical Manager) and Miss Veronica Crilly (Quality Manager). We also got the opportunity to examine (and taste!) some of Wilson’s extensive product range, including fruit salads, fruit snack packs and their huge range of pre-packed potatoes. What better way to celebrate the ‘International Year of the Potato 2008!’ To get a taste of what Loughry has to offer and join in our own Centenary Celebrations, why not come along to our Open Evening on Tuesday 22 April 2008 from 3.00–8.00PM.
