Exam Success for Enniskillen Farriers
08 April 2008

Five very happy farriers attended an awards ceremony in London having passed the recent examinations for the Diploma of the Worshipful Company of Farriers (DipWCF).

This was the culmination of some very hard work at the anvil and also in front of the books. Forging, shoemaking and shoe fitting were among the skills that were taught by their farrier tutor. In the classroom, they studied anatomy, physiology, pathology and farrier based treatments of the horse’s lower limb and foot.

It takes dedication and perseverance to raise competence to the levels required by the Worshipful Company of Farriers, while working full time from Monday to Friday. Russell Ferris (Co Down) and Ciaran King (Co Armagh), both local farriers and now fully qualified, are among the trainees who are rightly proud of their achievement.

Farriers already working within the industry who would like to update their skills and work towards this well regarded qualification should contact Sam Nelson MRCVS at CAFRE, Enniskillen Campus (Tel 028 6634 4853, e mail sam.nelson @dardni.gov.uk).
