CAFRE hosts Leonard Cheshire Disability group
23 June 2009

CAFRE’s Greenmount Campus recently hosted a very productive visit for a group from the Leonard Cheshire Disability centre in Omagh.

In Northern Ireland Leonard Cheshire Disability campaigns to change negative attitudes towards disability. They provide a range of support services for people with disabilities which foster and encourage the ethos of independent living. These services include five supported living services in Belfast, Londonderry, Banbridge and Lurgan and a resource centre in Omagh.

The group toured CAFRE facilities and then got some hands-on experience in the Horticultural Development Centre where they watched a demonstration by CAFRE staff and were able to try their hand at creating a hanging basket and planter.

Leonard Cheshire Disability group have recently started a garden project of their own using rented polytunnels in Omagh so they will be able to put the skills learned during their visit to good use.
