Alexander Waddell ex HND in Agriculture student

Alexander Waddell, an HND Agriculture graduate, now working as a Meat Procurement officer for Hewitt Meats, Loughgall, Co Armagh.


Alexander Waddell, Glasslough, Co. Monaghan completed the Higher National Diploma in Agriculture at Greenmount Campus in June 2008. He has started his career working for Hewitt Meats, a progressive meat processing and retailing business based in Loughgall, Co. Armagh.

Alexander has taken up the position of Meat Procurement officer. The Higher National Diploma in Agriculture prepared Alexander for this work through the range of units completed - these included Animal Science, Beef and Sheep Production Systems, Agricultural Business Environment and Enterprise Management. Alexander chose the LIMO management option where he gained valuable hands on experience of the beef supply chain from production, processing and marketing of high quality beef cattle. This in addition to experience gained during his work placement on a large scale dairy farm in New Zealand and at Goldcrop, an arable cooperative in Co. Louth, has prepared Alexander for his future career in the agri-food sector.

Christopher Holden from Donemana, near Strabane graduated from the Foundation Degree in Rural & Countryside management course at Greenmount Campus in June 2008. He successfully gained employment with the Loughs Agency as River Watcher His duties include patrolling Lough Foyle and coastal waters, investigating pollution incidents and undertake survey work.  

Chris comments ‘Modules such as Environmental Science and Habitat Management are really useful in my new job, I’m now putting the theory I learnt into practice.
