Careers Guidance for Greenmount Students
01 December 2008 Kenneth Johnston, Senior Lecturer, CAFRE, Greenmount CampusStudents on all courses at the College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise (CAFRE), including the National Certificate in Agriculture at Greenmount receive regular ongoing careers guidance through the CAFRE Careers Education and Guidance Programme. This programme aims to help students develop a clear awareness of their interests and abilities, acquire a sound understanding of careers and opportunities available to them and help them develop career management skills. Although most students who come to CAFRE have a strong interest in the land-based or food sectors, they don’t all spend their working lives in such sectors. Past students have branched out into careers such as journalism, professional sport, business, politics and even RAF pilots. The Careers Education and Guidance Programme at the College consists of a number of core and optional units which can be selected to meet the needs of any particular group of students and it is delivered with the close support of Liz Bowles of the Careers Service Northern Ireland. So, regardless of what course you enrol on with CAFRE, with a little bit of career guidance who knows where you might end up!
