Loughry health and fitness event provides real food for thought!
20 July 2009

The recent ‘Health and Fitness on your Doorstep’ conference at Loughry Campus provided the public with a wide range of information on the theories behind food choice, how they could eat more healthily and the many different activities available locally to help them keep fit. Highlights of the conference included a live feed from the kitchen where some healthy culinary delights were prepared and a practical exercise demonstration. The wide range of health promotion and lifestyle exhibitors gave the delegates a full flavour of the healthy food choices and activities available in the Mid Ulster area.

The conference was organised by the full-time MSc communication students at Loughry campus. One of the students, Patrick Dwyer reflecting on the experience said “the whole thing was like something out of the apprentice, Dr Roy Nelson our course manager walked into class on our first day back after Christmas and told us our task was to organise a conference in April.  Just like any group completing a task we had our ups and downs but it all came together in the end with a really good conference and some highly positive feedback from the delegates and our exhibitors. The experiences I have got on the course, such as organising the conference will be invaluable when I come to start looking for a job and hopefully hearing the immortal words “you’re hired”

The Postgraduate Communication course is a Queen’s University of Belfast course, delivered at Loughry Campus Cookstown, with options available in Training and Development for rural business and Strategic Management for rural business. It is available on a full and part-time basis. For more information freephone 0800 0284291.
