- Preparing to lead from the front
Next month five College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise (CAFRE) students will have the opportunity to take part in an exciting leadership programme called ‘Frontrunner’. This programme will inspire and challenge them to develop their personal characteristics and skills that they will need if they are to be at the forefront of the Agri-food industry in the future.

Profile of Mary Breen, who initially trained as a cook but felt the need for new challenges to further her interests in food and this led her to the College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise, Loughry Campus where she graduated in June 2009 with a National Diploma in Food Technology.

Recent part-time graduate Ellen McNally (Lurgan) decided to investigate consumers’ perceptions of the new Traffic Lights food labeling initiative. She interviewed consumers and held focus group discussions with Food Industry representatives
- Bursary bonanza at Greenmount
This year the College is pleased to announce the availability of NINE bursaries at Greenmount, which have been generously provided by Ai Services Ltd, the Northern Bank, the Ulster Farmers’ Union, Tyrone Farming Society, Dunbia, the Thomas Henry Memorial Trust, the David Colegrave Foundation, Ulster Grassland Society, and John Thompson and Sons Ltd. These bursaries are on offer to full-time students commencing the following courses in September 2009: BSc Agricultural Technology, HND Agriculture, Foundation Degree in Horticulture and Foundation Degree in Rural and Countryside Management. The bursaries provide financial support to assist students in their academic studies. Previous recipients have used the money to pay tuition or accommodation fees, to purchase laptops and to help enjoy college life to the full. Students apply on a competitive basis by submitting a report on a topic provided by the awarding organisation or attend an interview

Nicola Gillespie, a first year Food Technology degree student at Loughry Campus was the worthy winner of a Dale Farm Bursary, which is offered by Northern Ireland's leading dairy company, to support the intake of young students into the food industry.
