Welsh Student chooses Greenmount
22 May 2008
The College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise held a very successful Open Evening at Greenmount Campus on Wednesday 23rd April 2008. Over 270 prospective students attended with parents and friends. Among those who visited the Campus was Nicholas Rogers from Powys in Wales. Nicholas was looking for somewhere to study for a National Diploma in Agriculture in order to prepare him to return to help his father on their mixed farm in Wales. He had looked on-line at a number of Colleges in the UK and decided that CAFRE, Greenmount Campus offered the best range of options for him and also appeared to have the best facilities. He decided therefore to come over with his parents and have a good look at the facilities and talk to the staff. Back home in Powys, the family grow over 100 hectares of cereals and potatoes and also produce beef and lamb. They have a herd of pedigree Blonde cattle and a flock of pedigree Beltex sheep. Nicholas came with his mother and father and spent a day looking around the facilities and talking with the staff. Nicholas thought the facilities at Greenmount were very impressive. He said the course at Greenmount was particularly attractive because the emphasis was on livestock production and there was also a good crops option that fitted exactly with what he wanted to do. His parents were impressed with the attitude of the staff and with the residential and recreational facilities at the Campus. It was important to them that Nicholas would be safe and comfortable while he was so far away from home.
