Continuing their interest of the equine industry at Enniskillen CampusRachel Redmond and Martin O’Rourke, first year students at Enniskillen Campus write of their experiences to date of their course:- “Hi, my name is Rachel Redmond from Dromara, Co. Down and I’m a first year student on the National Diploma in Horse Management at Enniskillen Campus. Last year I completed the Animal Nursing Assistant course at Greenmount which I really enjoyed. I decided I wanted to continue to work with horses instead of small animals so I signed up for the National Diploma at Enniskillen Campus and started here in September. I am thoroughly enjoying the course. There is a good mixture of practical and theory classes and I hope to work with an equine veterinary practice as part of my ten week work placement. As well as the studying aspect the socialising is good. Before Christmas we had a Christmas show at Necarne and a Christmas Formal, which brought all the students together and allowed us to mix with students from the other courses at Enniskillen. I also make use of the Livery facilities available at the college for my horse. This is great as it allows me to keep my horse fit for competition at the weekends and during the holidays” “Hi, I’m Martin O’Rourke from Newry and I’m doing the same course as Rachel. I have always had a keen interest in horses and I have two horses at home. I also worked in a riding school as part of my school work experience. This work experience helped me decide to continue my studies with horses. I am really enjoying the course and have learnt a lot on the care of horses since I came in September including Stable skills, Horse Husbandry, Animal Biology, Horse Behaviour and Welfare, Horse Breeding and Stud Practices. We have just started the second semester and I’m looking forward to learning new subjects, for example, Business Management and Animal Health. We’re starting to plan for our work placement which is due to start at the end of May and I’m looking forward to working in the industry”
