By Darren McKay, BSc. Equine Management, Enniskillen Campus

“Hi, I am Darren McKay and I have just graduated with my BSc in Equine Management from CAFRE’s Enniskillen Campus. At our graduation ceremony in June I had the honour of being selected by my peer group to address everyone on behalf of the student body. It was a great way to end, what for me was a very happy time at Enniskillen.  Seven years ago I was sitting in the same auditorium collecting my certificate for the First Diploma in Horse Care and on graduation day 2009 there I was collecting my degree. If you had told me seven years ago that I would be standing there giving the student representative’s speech I would have thought you were crazy, so anything is possible.

Throughout the year there have been plenty of events to keep us entertained and busy at Enniskillen.  We had a fancy dress for Halloween and the Christmas formal with a 007 theme. We then organised a fund raiser for the Inter-varsities Competition where all the students got involved with the shaving of legs, dying of hair and a raffle for prizes.  The campus Inter-varsities teams which competed in Ashbourne, Co. Meath were very successful achieving 1st places in both show jumping and dressage.  But for me one of the high points of the year was being placed 4th at Balmoral Show on the College’s own Cool Customer. In between all of that, yes I did get coursework completed and got through my exams.

So all in all a really rewarding few years spent at College and a very happy ending to my time at Enniskillen, where I made lots of great friends. They say that school days are the happiest days of your life – for me it definitely has to be my college days!”
