Career Profiles

Allen Hall, Farm Liaison Officer, Skea Eggs

Alan Hall

Allen completed the course on a full-time basis in 2008

“In my line of work, communication is vital. It is a difficult balancing act, dealing with our farmers concerns whilst also ensuring that the requirements of our customers and legislation are fully understood and implemented.

When I completed my degree in Agricultural Economics I thought that was me finished with study, however, when I started applying for jobs and saw how competitive the job market was, I realised I needed that something extra to give me an edge above other applicants and that is why I enrolled on the MSc in Communication at Loughry. The experience gained on the course helped bridge the gap between my primary qualification and the world of work. The course was really worthwhile and I would recommend it to any graduate”.

Ann Kelly, Venturei Network

Ann Kelly

Ann Kelly completed her MSc in Communication on a part-time basis over three years, graduating in July 2009. Ann is a researcher for Venturei Network, a leading edge management consultancy, working with organisations in the private sector, public sector and the community and voluntary sector.

“I decided to enrol in the communication course because it allowed me to gain additional qualifications that were relevant to my career without having to travel to Belfast. The course has allowed me to study part-time while also being able to develop my practical capabilities at work. Part-time study can be demanding, balancing work, home life and the needs of the course, but it really helped that all the coursework was practical and the lecturers are really approachable. I really enjoyed my time and I made some very good friends on the course.”

David Willis, Business Development Manager: CB Packaging

David Willis

David’s Communication journey started back in the 1980s, when he completed the Diploma in Agricultural Communications through Loughry Campus (CAFRE). He decided, almost twenty years later, that he wanted to upgrade his communications qualification to an MSc through part-time study.

David is a Business Development Manager for CB Packaging, a paper sack manufacturer based in Bangor, looking after accounts throughout the UK and Ireland for companies in the Food, Feed and Seed Industries such as flour, milk powder, food ingredients and animal feeds.

“I enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere at Loughry and meeting fellow-minded students. The staff were always very supportive throughout my studies and this course has definitely helped my confidence and self-esteem”.
