NPTC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Horticulture (Sports Turf Management)

Course Aim

The Advanced National Certificate in Horticulture course is designed for those working in the sportsturf sector who have already completed a Level 2 qualification and wish to further develop their knowledge of sports turf management.

Course Content

Students attend college one day per week over two years from September to May.

The course is comprised of nine units:

  • Construction of sports and amenity turf areas
  • External examination
  • Maintenance of health and safety in the amenity horticulture industries
  • Management of sports turf -golf facilities
  • Management of weeds, pests and diseases
  • Plant physiology in relation to horticulture industries
  • Sustainable management of turf
  • Turf machinery and equipment management
  • Working in the turfgrass industry

Course Duration:

Two years

Entry Requirements:

Normally applicants must be working within the sports turf sector for a minimum of one day per week.

or

Level 2 qualification in sports turf (or equivalent). Students must be currently working in the sports turf industry.

or

Normally four GCSE passes at Grade C or above including English and Mathematics.

or

Applicants who can demonstrate significant relevant industry experience will also be considered.

These applicants may be required to submit work-based evidence and undertake written assessments and/or practical competence tests as part of the assessment.
