Advanced National Certificate in Sports and Amenity Turf Management

Course Aim

The Advanced National Certificate in Horticulture course is designed for those working in the sportsturf sector who have already completed a Level 2 qualification and wish to further develop their knowledge of sports turf management.

Course Content

Students attend college one day per week over two years from September to May.

The course is comprised of nine units:

  • Construction of sports and amenity turf areas
  • External examination
  • Maintenance of health and safety in the amenity horticulture industries
  • Management of sports turf -golf facilities
  • Management of weeds, pests and diseases
  • Plant physiology in relation to horticulture industries
  • Sustainable management of turf
  • Turf machinery and equipment management
  • Working in the turfgrass industry

NVQ Level 2 qualification in sports turf or equivalent. Normally two Grade Cs or three Grade Ds at GCSE preferably including English and Mathematics.

Progression Opportunities:

Students can progress into a position of responsibility within the sports turf sector. Alternatively they can progress onto a Certificate of Higher Education or Foundation Degree programme in Horticulture
