RHS Young Chelsea Florist of the Year Competition Success

A group of our second year part time floristry students recently took a short study tour to visit New Covent Garden Market and some leading London florists.

The group took part in the College Days Competition and had a tour of the market, and two students, Laura Harvey and Ashleen McEvoy, entered the Covent Garden heat of the RHS Young Chelsea Florist of the Year Competiton.

Their task was to create a design to be worn by a bride getting married in the famous Ice Hotel, Sweden. Laura came fourth with a gorgeous bridal muff design and Ashleen was delighted to win through to the final with a stunning headdress design. She is now preparing to compete in the final at the prestigious RHS Chelsea Show in May.

Ashleen is the third Greenmount floristry student to reach the final of this world class competition and this year a group of her fellow students hope to be there to cheer her on when they visit Chelsea as part of the joint Greenmount Association Horticulture and Floristry Clubs’ summer tour.

There will be more details of the competition and Ashleen’s preparations nearer the event.
