The equine industry is truly international with job opportunities in many fields enabling graduates to travel around the globe and enjoy a challenging career.
The UK horse industry currently has a gross output of £3.4 bn and about 5 million people have an active interest in the industry. There are approximately 125,000 full-time jobs working directly with horses and as many again in ancillary industries.
Enniskillen Campus aims to produce students with the ability to succeed in a wide range of careers within the equine industry, through gaining a qualification that develops both academic and practical skills thus ensuring greater versatility and increased employment opportunities.
Enniskillen Campus currently provides the widest range of courses in Equine Studies in Ireland. The courses have been developed through balancing the needs of the industry with the career aspirations of students. The College aims to assist the development of a competitive equine industry and aspires to give the students an insight into the many different international equine related enterprises available to them.
Enniskillen Campus facilities
Equine courses offered at Enniskillen Campus involve a strong practical dimension and the College has excellent equestrian resources and facilities. Enniskillen Campus owns a number of Thoroughbred , Sport horse and irish Draught mares and young stock to enable students to gain experience in breeding. A specialist breeding unit was purpose built in 2003 and provides hands-on experience in the routine care and management of all breeding stock. Facilities include 12 stables, 4 foaling boxes with CCTV, handling stocks, a solarium and nursery paddocks.
The racing enterprise alows our students to handle and ride race horses in training. Facilities invlude stabling for 20 horses, a horse walker, a racehorse simulator, an indoor arena, an all-weather menage and gallops.
The equitation aspects of courses take place at Necarne Castle. The 160 hectare estate, which hosts an international 3-day event, contains a cross-country and steeplechase course. There are stabling facilities for 80 horses, a horse walker, an indoor areana and warm-up arena, two outdoor all-weather menages, three all-weather grass arenas and a point-to-point course.
