CAFRE has long-standing, close links with many sectors of the food and land-based industry. We receive industry support in many ways; businesses sponsor student projects, facilitate visits, act as guest lecturers and provide work placements.
One of the keys to the career success of our students is the hands-on experience they gain during a period of professional work placement as part of their course. On work placement you can experience how industry functions, develop your personal and communication skills and gain valuable experience to add to your curriculum vitae.
Students are encouraged to spend their work placement in one or two locations. Many students have sampled a wide variety of experiences in countries including Australia, New Zealand, United States of America, France and Germany.
When on placements, CAFRE students have worked as:
- Potato agronomists
- Farm liaison officers
- Customer liaison officers
- Hygiene auditors
- Product development officers
- Laboratory analysts
- Trainee nursery production managers
- Assistant garden centre managers
- Countryside wardens
- Journalists
- Foaling manager
- Racehorse assistant trainers
- Racehorse and competition grooms and riders
- Equine laboratory technicians
After working with professionals, students are well prepared for a successful career.
