College Support Services

Starting a new course at College can be daunting, particularly if you are living away from home for the first time.  When you come to the College, staff and fellow students organise an induction programme, which, amongst other things, informs you about the full range of support services and people within and outside the College, who are available to look after your well being.

Your Personal Tutor

We hope you will have a trouble-free time at College.  If you do have any problems however, your personal tutor will be happy to help you.  At the start of each term, you will informally meet with your tutors and discuss your academic background, interests, course structures, options, progression routes and individual aspirations.  Formal tutorial sessions are scheduled before, and after, the first semester examinations.

In addition, there are various support services you can turn to for help and advice, or even just a chat.  Learning to look after yourself, making decisions and managing your time and money are all important parts of the learning experience of going to College.  At all campuses the support of students is a priority for College staff.

Medical Services

Residential students who wish to transfer to a local doctor, or are living outside the practice area (generally 7-10 miles) of their family doctor, may register with a local doctor of their choice.  If you are unwell, we will make arrangements for you to see a GP and, if necessary, take you to hospital.

Student Counselling

A well-established 24-hour Counselling Service offers confidential advice and support.  The unique service is discrete and professional and has wide experience in dealing with all types of problems students may face.  We hope you will not need this service but it is reassuring to know that it is there.

International Students

CAFRE welcome applications from within the European Economic Area.
