Recently Greenmount Association members along with current Horticulture and Floristry students visited the world famous Chelsea Flower Show . For most who went this was their first visit to Chelsea . This years Greenmount Association educational visit was very well supported. Twenty two people attended. Current students used the opportunity to build relationships with past students who are working in the industry. Some of them are currently working as garden designers, landscape contractors and growers. The group took a special interest in the floristry exhibits this year as one of CAFRE’s floristry students, Ashleen McEvoy, was competing as a finalist in the RHS Young Chelsea Florist of the Year Competition. In addition to the Chelsea Flower show some of the group made a visit to the Chelsea Physic Garden which was founded by the Worshipful Society of Apothecaries of London in 1673 for its apprentices to study the medicinal qualities of plants. Others visited the the flagship RHS garden at Wisely and were impressed by the richly planted borders, luscious rose gardens andthe new state-of-the-art glasshouse.
