Introduction to Lungeing Course

Background

Lungeing is an essential part of any horse’s training programme. It is an old technique, having been used to train horses for many centuries in different parts of the world. Lungeing is an invaluable training tool when correctly and skilfully used, as an alternative to riding or for horses that have developed problems in their work.

Aim

The aim of this course is that the trainee will develop and improve their knowledge and practical skills associated with lungeing horses.

Entry requirements

Applicants must be 16 years of age or over and must have some previous experience in handling horses.

Course structure

This course lasts one day.

Course content

The course will include the following:

  • Benefits of lungeing and theory behind lungeing
  • Equipment for lungeing
  • Tacking up for lungeing
  • Introducing a horse to the lunge for the first time

Cost

This course is free to equine breeders/ producers whose business is located within Northern Ireland. However a refundable deposit of £30 is required to book a place on this course. Applicants from Great Britain or Republic of Ireland must pay the full course fee of £35 in order to book a place on the course, which is non-refundable.
