Loose Jumping Course

Aim

To train existing personnel within the equine industry in Northern Ireland to be competent in the skills associated with loose schooling/ jumping horses.

Target audience

Horse owners and trainers.

Entry requirements

Applicants must be 16 years of age or over and have experience in working with horses.

Course structure

This course lasts 1 full day. It is a very practical course and includes demonstrations, theory and practical hands on activities.

Course content

The course will cover the following topics related to young stock handling:

  • Theory – Benefits of loose schooling/safety issues/preparation of a horse for loose schooling/distances to use.
  • Students will build a loose schooling track under the guidance of the tutor.
  • Demonstration of how to ‘loose jump’ a horse followed by student practice using different horses.
  • Evaluation and appraisal of horse’s technique when jumping
  • Discussion on loose jumping competitions/what the judge is looking for/preparation of the horse for competition.

Cost

This course is free to equine breeders/ producers whose business is located within Northern Ireland. However a refundable deposit of £30 is required to book a place on this course. Applicants from Great Britain or Republic of Ireland must pay the full course fee of £35 in order to book a place on the course, which is non-refundable.
