Clipping Course

Aim

To train existing people within the equine industry in the skills and competencies associated with clipping horses.

Target audience

Horse owners or anyone interested in learning how to clip horses safely and effectively.

Entry requirements

Applicants must be 16 years of age or over and have experience in working with horses.

Course structure

This course lasts a half day. It is a very practical course and includes demonstrations, theory and practical hands on activities.

Course content

The course will cover the following:

  • Theory – Why it is necessary to clip, when to clip, types of clip, safety issues.
  • Practical – The clippers – how to handle, maintenance, introduce to the horse, safety issues.
  • Practical – demonstration of how to clip.
  • Practical – clipping a variety of horses under supervision.
  • Discussion, questions and answers.

Cost

This course is free to equine breeders whose business is located within Northern Ireland. However a refundable deposit of £30 is required to book a place on this course. Applicants from Great Britain or Republic of Ireland must pay the full course fee of £20 in order to book a place on the course, which is non-refundable.
