Aim
This course aims to improve and enhance the skills of trainees in techniques associated with advanced lungeing.
Entry requirements
Applicants must be 16 years of age or over and must have attended the Introduction to Lungeing course or have achieved the BHS Horse Knowledge and Care Stage 2 or 3 or equivalent.
Course structure
This course lasts 1 day and will consist of theory sessions in the classroom and practical sessions in the yard. Staff will demonstrate advanced lungeing methods to trainees and trainees will be given the opportunity to practice their own lungeing skills.
Course content
The course will include the following:
- Lungeing theory.
- Alternative ways of lungeing to improve the horse’s way of going.
- Retraining the spoilt horse through lungeing.
- Discussion and demonstration of different ‘gadgets’ used for lungeing.
- Lungeing with 2 reins.
- Lungeing over poles to improve the horse’s way of going.
Cost
This course is free to equine breeders/ producers whose business is located within Northern Ireland. However a refundable deposit of £30 is required to book a place on this course. Applicants from Great Britain or Republic of Ireland must pay the full course fee of £35 in order to book a place on the course, which is non-refundable.
