Bees - Intermediate Beekeeping Course

Overview

This course builds significantly on the knowledge learned on the Preliminary course and improves the understanding a beekeeper has of both the practical and scientific aspects of beekeeping.

Who is the course for?

People who have achieved the FIBKA Preliminary Beekeeping certificate. (It is worth noting that there is a significant step up in the level of knowledge and understanding required from the Preliminary Certificate to the Intermediate Certificate)

Course Content

Practical (15 evenings)

Migratory Beekeeping, Queen rearing, Management of nuclei, Disease and pest control, Equipment, Preparation of honey and wax for show, Legislation and Starting up in Beekeeping

Scientific (15 evenings)

The external and internal features of the honeybee, it’s life cycle, the work done, methods of communication, reproduction, brood and  adult bee diseases, pollination, honey and swarming

Assessment

A three-hour written exam at the end of both the Practical and Scientific years.
