Overview
The AMTRA course provides an understanding of the causes and control of diseases in farm livestock and knowledge of the law relating to the sale and supply of licensed animal medicines so equipping a person to undertake the responsibility for a registered premise. The course leads to a range of SQP qualifications.
Who is the course for?
Those seeking to prescribe and sell POM-VPS medicines, and those seeking to sell NFA-VPS medicines.
Course Content
The course covers four main topics:
- Legislation. The AMTRA Code of Good Practice for the sale and supply of animal medicines.
- Animal Health. Basic anatomy and physiology of farm livestock, horses, cats and dogs. Causes and treatment of common diseases and disorders. Parasites and their control.
- Animal Husbandry. The welfare and environmental requirements of farm animals, horses, cats and dogs. Basic livestock husbandry and production systems.
- Veterinary Medicines. The correct methods of storing and handling veterinary medicines. Understanding the nature of medicines. Essential information about animal health products particularly that on labels.
Assessment
To successfully complete the course the a candidate must:
- pass a written examination;
- submit a project;
- satisfy an AMTRA Assessor that he/she has a good working knowledge of course material and sound understanding of the project.
