- Cows are cleaned and pre dipped prior to milking and also pre dipped afterwards.
- Students are responsible for using the diet feeder to mix and feed out TMR which currently consists of silage, maize, straw, lint and molasses.
- Along with practical duties students keep a record of feed and calving dates, using computer programme.
- Cows are clipped twice a year. This is a skill which is a course requirement which is used to keep the cows cleaner and from overheating once their housed. This year World Wide Sires visited the C.R.E.A.M. unit and outlined how to score the cows. Few areas which could be slightly improved were highlighted and this was then reflected in the bull selection criteria.
- Local motion scoring is also done twice a year. It is used to assess the ease of which the cow walks and is based on a scale of 1-5.
